This week has been ridiculous. That said, tomorrow should be, too. At the risk of sounding like a horribly gregarious self-promoter I’m going to utilize this world-wide forum to announce that my annual birthday celebration will take place here in Athens at The Caledonia Lounge on Saturday, May 10.
I started throwing these parties about four years ago and I’m pretty sure the impetus was because I was getting to the age where if I had depended on anyone else to make celebratory plans they would have been along the lines of a dinner party or a night of bar-hopping.
That’s fine for the rest of you fogies but I want a rock show. And I’m more than happy to handle that myself. All you have to do is show up.
Doors will open at 10 PM and the show will start just about 10:15. As usual, all the bands were handpicked by me and asked specifically to play. I’ve always been very fortunate in that the bands I ask to play these things are happy to do it and willing to work for almost no money. So, the least you could do is watch them and have a good time. The lineup is as follows (first to last)…
–Wedge (Beautiful, bliss-pop along the lines of an American Cocteau Twins)
–Entertainment (goth/new wave/post punk; new album out on Stickfigure now)
-Comedian T.J. Young (Athens-based comedian that just kills.)
–Fishboy (Denton, TX-based garage-indie-pop guys; recent album on HHBTM; ).
–Spring Tigers (Sharp Brit-pop in the vein of The Kinks, Blur, et al; Dig.)
This whole shebobble will run you a mere $3.00. Remember: if it costs you money, it’s a Gordon Lamb production.
Happy Birthday, Johnny G!
Have a great time at the Caledonia – sorry we won’t be able to make it!
Happy nth anniversary of your 29th birthday!
should’ve said hey while I was there, but had a great time at your b-day party last night! hope it was happy!
