The Groop Plays Athens, GA

Although you may have read about it HERE first, this post serves as the official announcement that Buddies Helping Buddies is bringing Stereolab to Athens’ 40 Watt Club September 27, 2008. Needless to say we’re giddy like kids. Although I’ve personally been a fan of the band for just about 16 years this booking was all due to the hard work of Mike Turner who has been in communication with the bands management for the last five years trying to make this happen. Now, as the band will have released its newest album Chemical Chords by tour time, everything is aligned perfectly.

Stereolab last played Athens, GA (and the 40 Watt) November 13, 1999.

Tickets will go on sale this week and, duh, I’ll link you up then. For now, enjoy the news.

MP3: Stereolab-Three Women (From the forthcoming LP Chemical Chords)
MP3: Stereolab-French Disko (From 1994, this is my favorite Stereolab song ever. Dig lyrics below…)

French Disko:
Though this world’s essentially
an absurd place to be living in
It doesn’t call for total withdrawal

I’ve been told it’s a fact of life
Men have to kill one another
Well I say there are still things worth fighting for

La Resistance!

Though this world’s essentially
an absurd place to be living in
It doesn’t call for (bubble withdrawal)

It said human existence is pointless
As acts of rebellious solidarity
Can bring sense in this world

La Resistance!
