This is a sad one, folks. Athens radio station WBKZ-AM 880 suffered a fire this past Wednesday night. Although first thought to be racially motivated, as WBKZ is Athens’ premier broadcaster of R&B, Soul and Gospel, it winds up it was due to an electrical problem. Here’s to them getting back up and running again soon. This station has been in Athens since 1993 and is a real treat to have here. The depth of their record collection is pretty stellar and the independently produced talk and call-in shows are always entertaining.
